KEVIN WENIG CHIEF BEAN COUNTER
Kevin has been in public accounting since 1992, working mainly with small businesses and high net-worth individuals. From his start in a 3-person firm to Tax Manager of a 600+-person company in New York City, he lived and breathed accounting even before it was cool. Kevin has won a number of awards (who knew there were awards for accounting!), has been published multiple times in various industry publications and hosts webinars attended by CPAs for Intuit. Kevin has worked predominantly with creative clients since he was a pup.

The affinity with creatives is natural: Kevin is also a tech junkie and software designer with a number of firsts under his belt—like the first accounting iPhone app, TaxVault, and the first “how not to” blog-turned-book, Negatism. And for fun, founded CPApp®, an online tool that provides everything you need to run an accounting firm that he sells to other CPA firms.

When he’s not working, he spends his time reading and looking for his golf ball. He lives in Easton, CT with his first wife and two children.
RUSSELL SMITH CHIEF EVERYTHING ELSE'R
Since joining us, Russell has worked exclusively with our major business clients, now acting as Controller for the largest. He also oversees many of our small business clients, and guides our talented staff using “real world” experience: having been a commercial photographer in a previous life, Russell understands the concerns of creatives and can talk their language.

In the midst of any chaos, Russell manages to keep calm. He’s extremely detail-oriented, has a couple of education degrees, is the in-house IT guy who we trust more than our IT guy, and also is a certified Intuit ProAdvisor. He went Apple before it was cool and stays a Mets fan even when it’s not.

If you don’t quite trust the numbers supplied by your bookkeeper, if you have no time to keep doing it yourself, if reconciling pass-through costs with a client is a daunting task, then yes, we can help. We provide what you need and provide the scalability to grow as you do. Am I locked into using your own, proprietary software? Absolutely not! They’re your books, not ours. However, we created SnAppshot ® to use in conjunction with QuickBooks Online that makes working with us even easier and information more up to the minute for you. Some clients use it, some don’t, and it’s 100% free (to our clients). What makes Finance Office Partners® different from a bookkeeping service? We do the bookkeeping as a matter of course AND we offer a far more robust solution. We are a complete Finance Department, with a staff of pre-screened, background-checked, and proven bookkeepers, staff and senior accountants, controllers, and CPAs. Each one utilized to the extent necessary for your organization. Where is my data? 100% of what we do is scanned and stored electronically, and we share everything via Dropbox. We never have anything you don’t have AND most everything is shared the same day we receive it. Do you have banking, financing, legal, marketing, design, web, and other consulting colleagues that can help us? Yes. Do I really need that many people on my small business? I get along just fine with just my bookkeeper. Your bookkeeper pays your bills and sends your invoices and that’s a great start. However, we have someone else reconcile the bank and credit card accounts to spot errors and irregularities. We ensure a Senior Accountant supervises the bookkeeper so you don’t have to do it.
Our Controller reviews the books to be sure they are accurate. We also propose strategies and implement best-practices procedures to make everyone more efficient.
A CPA reviews each set of financial statements to check for reasonableness and adherence to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (“GAAP”). We have another CPA who specializes in taxation to be sure you are paying as little as possible at every turn and strategizing for the future.
The best part? The price! Likely lower than you think. Plus, with all these Finance professionals in place, you are equipped to make the best financial decisions for your organization and be prepared for growth.
How do I know my accounts are safe? That’s our unique advantage over using a bookkeeper. We have far more security than just relying on your bookkeeper by having checks and balances built in to our process. As an example, different staff reconcile accounts than those who cut the checks. What’s your track record? Amazing. Unbelievable. Really. It’s rare, but since 2001, we’ve lost just a client or two. What is Negatism? We’re so glad you asked. Finance Office Partners is virtually down the hall and we serve clients around the world, across the nation and even across the street. What if we only need traditional CPA services? We can do that too. Kevin Wenig, CPA services might be just what you need. How can you work efficiently off-site? Seems to me you need to be in the office with us. We are 100% digital and online. An onsite presence is not as necessary as it would have been once upon a time. We have clients across the United States and Europe; and even one in Iceland!
We use all the leading digital communication tools. We can also use SnAppshot ® which picks up where QuickBooks Online leaves off to make working with us seamless. Plus, all your data is accessible to you at all times.
What can I expect every month? We perform all the same bookkeeping activities you have already come to expect with your current provider. We then have a formal closing process where a Controller reviews your financials and proposes changes and revisions, if necessary. All taxes and filings are done without having to go to a separate CPA firm. This is our unique value-add that you can’t get anywhere else. Do I need to sign a contract? Never! If you’re not happy, then we’re not happy and we’ll take immediate steps to make it right. But, if at any time you decide to leave us for whatever reason, we will professionally transition to your next provider, no questions asked. All we ask is 30-days’ notice to be able to completely transition.
I’m a pain when it comes to my finances and like to be on top of it every minute. Yes, we know. We keep you updated and communicate with you as much – or as little – as you like. It’s your money, you should have the information to make effective, timely and informed decisions on your schedule, not just on Tuesdays, when your bookkeeper comes in. How do you know which bills to pay? In the beginning, we work closely with you to get all bills approved before any payments are made by us. Over time, we will begin to pay monthly reoccurring bills on our own (with your advance approval). Specific bills will need to be approved so we know the vendor delivered what was promised before they are paid.
We use our proprietary software, SnAppshot ® which has a built in, easy-to-use accounts payable approval process (we call it Pay-Able®).
Do you really expect me to add your names to my business checking account? Well, yes! We run background checks on all employees plus we carry appropriate insurance (Does your bookkeeper?) Only Russell and Kevin have signature authority on your bank accounts. However, if you choose not to follow this route, we can open a separate checking account just for you with our names on it and you can ACH us funds to cover your expenses. We only have access to what you release to us. Can Finance Office Partners® really save me money? Yes! As part of our normal service, we move excess cash to interest bearing accounts, take advantage of credit card float and points, negotiate with vendors, plan for taxes saving not just tax, but interest and penalties as well. The list goes on and on. What software do you recommend? We love QuickBooks Online and Dropbox. And of course, our proprietary SnAppshot ®.
